Trump-Xi Meeting: What Will It Bring?
Markets await the start of the G20 summit, which will be held on November 30 - December 1 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The main event of the upcoming summit may be the first full-fledged meeting of US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping after the start of the US-China trade war.
China hopes for positive results in resolving a trade dispute with the United States at a G20 summit. "I hope that the United States and China could move toward each other and work hard to achieve positive results in the meeting," Gao Feng (China’s Commerce Ministry spokesman) stated.
Still, failure of the negotiations is still more likely, since the concessions that Beijing is prepared to make are still only part of Washington’s claims, and not the most important one. So, the Chinese side proposes to reduce the trade imbalance between the two countries by increasing imports of American products. But now the key US claims relate to Chinese programs of state support for innovative industries and the violation of intellectual property rights of American companies.
