Top EU Court Says Britain Can Stop Brexit
The UK parliamentary vote on Brexit deal is scheduled to take place tomorrow, December 11. Parliament will be voting on whether to approve the EU withdrawal agreement and a declaration on future relations settled on by Theresa May and European leaders following months of back-and-forth negotiations.
Theresa May’s Brexit agreement has little support across the political spectrum and is expected to be rejected by the lower chamber House of Commons. If Theresa May loses, the government will have 21 days to bring forward a new plan of action to parliament.
Today, the European Court of Justice ruled that Britain could halt withdrawal from the EU without seeking the approval of fellow member states, in a victory for anti-Brexit campaigners. “The United Kingdom is free to revoke unilaterally the notification of its intention to withdraw from the EU,” the court said.
