Euro Rose Against US Dollar
The euro rose against the US dollar, but stopped the rally in the $1.18 area, amid worries about the speech of Catalan President Carlos Puigdemont before the regional parliament, during which he can proclaim independence of the region.
Earlier, the euro was supported by data on Germany's trade and payment balance. The trade balance published by the Statistical Office of Germany (Destatis) in August, excluding seasonal fluctuations, amounted to 20.0 billion euros, which is higher than the previous value of 19.6 billion euros. As a result, the trade surplus with seasonal fluctuations increased to 21.6 billion euros in August from 19.3 billion euro in the previous month.
